QUESTA, N.M. (TCD) -- A father and his 14-year-old son were taken into custody after the boy allegedly shot and killed another teen and left her body outside.
According to the New Mexico State Police, on July 28 at approximately 2:30 p.m., four juveniles were "hanging out" at William Brown’s home on Cabresto Road and listening to music. The 14-year-old then allegedly pointed a pistol at the 13-year-old victim and shot her.
Then, the 14-year-old reportedly "dragged the female’s body outside and returned to the residence."
Soon thereafter, Brown returned home and went inside.
When law enforcement officials arrived, Brown and the suspect, his son, "refused to come out of the residence for approximately 30 minutes."
Eventually they exited the home and the teen was arrested on charges of first-degree open count of murder, two counts of tampering with evidence, and two counts of assault on a police officer. He was placed into custody at the San Juan Juvenile Detention Center.
Brown was arrested for negligent making a firearm accessible to a minor resulting in death. He reportedly owned the gun used in the fatal shooting.
New Mexico State Police said they are not releasing the names of the suspect or the victim.
