MARION COUNTY, Fla. (TCD) -- A 37-year-old elementary school teacher was arrested after allegedly bringing a controlled substance to school.
According to a press release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, April 12, Hiromi Adams, a first-grade teacher at Hammett Bowen Elementary School, "was exhibiting concerning behavior." Adams was reportedly sent to the school’s medical office for a wellness check due to her behavior.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, other teachers at the school saw Adams walk toward the classroom bathroom, believing that she left behind something before leaving the school.
School administrators reportedly conducted a search of the bathroom and recovered a pill bottle with Adams’ name on it. Inside the bottle, the Sheriff’s Office says there was a red straw, half a green pill, and a small plastic baggie with green powder. A test was performed on the powder and returned positive for MDMA, also known as ecstasy or molly, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Marion County Deputy Neil Rosaci reportedly arrested Adams off-campus. During a search, the Sheriff’s Office says she was also in possession of suboxone. Adams was reportedly booked into Marion County Jail.
Marion County Public Schools told WKMG-TV that Adams will remain on paid administrative leave, pending the results of the investigation.
