Kentucky woman pleads guilty to putting newborn baby in trash bag and tossing it over banister

CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (TCD) -- A 25-year-old woman accused of killing her newborn child pleaded guilty on the same day her trial was due to begin.
According to WKYT-TV, Amber Bowling entered the plea Monday, May 23, for murder. Her recommended sentence is reportedly 40 years in prison, per the plea deal.
On Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, Kentucky State Police from Post 11 received a call about a baby that had been found on a porch wrapped in a trash bag. According to Kentucky State Police, on Dec. 12, detectives executed a search warrant at an apartment on Ham Hollow Road and arrested Bowling on a charge of murder — domestic violence.
WKYT reports Bowling placed her child in the trash bag and tossed it over the banister. She had reportedly given birth two days before the child was found dead. According to WLEX-TV, an autopsy determined the child died from injuries related to blunt force trauma and also suffered a brain bleed, a cranial fracture, and fractured ribs.
Bowling will be sentenced June 27.
