WASHINGTON (WITI) -- Police said a thief stole a woman's vehicle with her toddler inside at a D.C. gas station Tuesday, and a Good Samaritan helped reunite the family.
A witness on his way to work he saw a woman being dragged down Kennedy Street in Northwest D.C. at about 9:40 a.m.
Surveillance video from the gas station showed the suspect crouching down as he ran across the street and got into the SUV as the woman held the gas pump at about 9:40 a.m. She then ran to the driver's side and grabbed the door as the suspect drove off.
“Literally, he ran over her,” the Samaritan said.
The Good Samaritan followed the white Mercedes SUV about a half-mile and witnessed the woman fall off. He then saw the driver ditch the stolen car and get into another vehicle and leave.
The gas tank door was still open when detectives got to the toddler.
Police said the child and the mother were not injured.
