CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (TCD) -- A 29-year-old man was arrested after allegedly abducting a couple and beating them in their own home.
According to a news release from the Chesterfield County Police Department, on June 12 at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers responded to a home on the 4500 block of Centralia Road to a report of an abduction. Kris Klenotiz and Kayla Hypes told authorities their roommate, Christopher Courteau, had abducted and assaulted them, WRIC-TV reports.
The female victim was reportedly able to escape the home and alert authorities.
Upon officers’ arrival, police say the male adult victim ran out of the house as Courteau went upstairs. Courteau reportedly came back downstairs "wearing body armor and holding a revolver."
When ordered to put the gun down, Courteau allegedly failed to do so, but he later put the gun on a table and ran toward an officer. According to police, Courteau assaulted several officers but was taken into custody after a brief struggle.
Klenotiz told WRIC he and Hypes were tortured for some type of information Courteau believed they had. Courteau allegedly beat Klenotiz inside a bathtub and tied his girlfriend up in the other room.
According to police, Courteau was arrested and charged with two counts of abduction, two counts of attempted capital murder, three counts of brandishing, three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, five counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, shooting into an occupied dwelling, malicious wounding, unlawful wounding, attempt to disarm a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, use of body armor while committing a crime, and felony obstruction of justice.
Courteau remains held in the Chesterfield County Jail without bond.
