California high school senior fatally shot a month before prom and graduation

YUCAIPA, Calif. (TCD) -- A 17-year-old high school senior succumbed to her injuries this week after she and her 18-year-old boyfriend were reportedly shot while sitting in a car.
According to a news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, on Saturday, April 29, at around 11:28 p.m., Yzabella Perez and an 18-year-old male were sitting in a parked car on the 34000 block of Princeton Drive when an unknown suspect or suspects fired at the vehicle. As a result, both victims were hit and transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office said the suspect or suspects fled the scene, and no arrests have been made.
Perez died from her injuries at the hospital Wednesday, May 3. According to KABC-TV, the 18-year-old victim was released from the hospital. Officials did not disclose his name.
Perez was reportedly a senior at Yucaipa High School and was planning to attend her prom and graduation next month.
The investigation is ongoing, and the Sheriff’s Office has asked anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
