DETROIT (TCD) -- A 44-year-old man was taken into custody this week after his girlfriend’s dismembered remains were found in their home.
Detroit Police Chief James E. White spoke at a press conference regarding 33-year-old Latima Warren’s disappearance and said remains found at a residence on Vaughan Street on Jan. 17 "point to the fact" that it is the missing mother of four.
Investigators are still waiting on positive identification, but White said they’ve already launched a homicide investigation. Detectives reportedly "saw some disturbing things in the yard" and secured the location before obtaining and serving a search warrant.
Upon finding the remains, officers arrested Warren’s boyfriend Rondell Waters. WDIV-TV reports Waters was at home with their newborn when he was taken into custody.
According to WDIV, Warren’s family member Gwen Parks searched the home and discovered some of Warren’s clothing and baby formula in the backyard near some recently dug-up dirt. She then called police, who then executed the search warrant at the residence. WDIV reports Warren’s remains were found in several bags in the attic and elsewhere. Police also reportedly smelled the odor of a decomposing body.
WJBK-TV reports Warren was fatally shot before being dismembered.
