BURLINGTON, N.C. (TCD) -- A 67-year-old man was identified as a suspect and arrested after his severed finger was found at the scene of an alleged attempted home invasion.
According to WGHP-TV, which cites the Burlington Police Department, on Oct. 6 at approximately 7 a.m., officers received a call from someone who said a man with a gun approached him as he walked into his home. The suspect allegedly tried to enter the victim’s home, and the two got into an altercation.
The suspect’s gun reportedly went off, striking the man in the chest. The Greensboro News & Record reports the victim did not seek medical attention.
Crime scene investigators arrived at the residence and reportedly found a glove that fell off the suspect during the fight. Investigators discovered a severed finger inside the glove and used that to identify Vernon Wilson as the suspect.
The News & Record reports Wilson’s finger was likely cut off when the victim shut the door, which he allegedly closed on Wilson’s hand.
Alamance County Jail records show Wilson was booked on charges of common law robbery, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a weapon by a felon, and a parole violation.
