LINCOLNWOOD, Ill. (TCD) -- A 32-year-old man was taken into custody after he allegedly broke into an 80-year-old woman’s home naked and held her hostage for several hours.
A Lincolnwood Police Department arrest blotter shows officers arrested James Davis III on Feb. 7 at approximately 2:55 a.m. for home invasion and aggravated kidnapping. According to WGN-TV, Davis went into the woman’s home on the 4600 block of Morse Avenue on Sunday, Feb. 6. He was reportedly not clothed and was holding scissors. Davis allegedly took all the phones in the house so the woman would not be able to call for help.
WGN reports Lincolnwood Police showed up at the house at approximately 9:40 p.m. to conduct a well-being check because her daughter was concerned after not having heard from her. Responding officers reportedly saw broken glass from a window and blood.
The victim, who CBS Chicago identifies as Denyse Holt, said Davis "threatened" her when he walked into her room with the scissors, bloody from the broken glass. Davis told CBS Chicago in a video interview that Davis got into bed next to her and told her, "I won’t harm you or molest you."
Davis allegedly made Holt take a shower with him, then a bath. He reportedly took two knives from her kitchen because he "liked those" and forced her to stay in the basement, where she remained for 17 hours until she was rescued by a SWAT team.
She told CBS Chicago, "I didn’t think I was going to live."
Holt’s daughter Meredith Holt-Caldwell, who lives in Seattle, reportedly grew concerned because Holt was not reading her texts, nor did she respond to a Wordle game in the morning.
A SWAT team eventually rescued Holt and arrested Davis. WGN reports Holt was not harmed and police believe Davis could have been in the midst of a mental health crisis when this occurred.
