CINCINNATI (TCN) -- A 40-year-old man was taken into custody over the weekend for allegedly killing his mother and critically injuring his father after his mother reportedly told him he could not stay at their house that night.
According to the Green Township Police Department, on Friday, Aug. 9, at approximately 4 p.m., officers and paramedics were called to a home on the 3300 block of Palmhill Lane regarding a stabbing. When they arrived, they found two victims with apparent stab wounds, one of whom was pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified her as Barbara Mortimer. Medics transported the 75-year-old male to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police said the suspect, Kenneth Mortimer, fled the scene before police arrived. They allege Mortimer attacked his parents in the midst of an argument. He was reportedly later found in Cincinnati and arrested. He is in the Hamilton County Jail on charges of murder, attempted murder, and felonious assault.
Court documents cited by WCPO-TV allege Barbara Mortimer told Kenneth Mortimer during their argument that he was not allowed to stay at their house that night. They reportedly got into a physical altercation, and Barbara Mortimer told her husband to call psychiatric services. Kenneth Mortimer reportedly attacked them, but Barbara Mortimer managed to escape outside. Kenneth Mortimer allegedly tackled her and "dragged" her back inside, where he continued to stab her.
Mortimer allegedly confessed to the stabbing while speaking with police.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Mortimer pleaded guilty last year to public indecency and was sentenced to 93 days in jail and probation.
Records show Mortimer’s bond was set at $2 million.
