N.Y. woman sentenced to 21 years for trying to kill look-alike with poisoned cheesecake

QUEENS, N.Y. (TCD) -- A judge in New York has sentenced a 47-year-old woman to 21 years in prison for trying to fatally poison a look-alike in 2016 and stealing her identity.
In February, a jury convicted Viktoria Nasyrova of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault, unlawful imprisonment, and petit larceny for an August 2016 incident that left a woman hospitalized and burgled.
The Queens District Attorney’s Office announced Nasyrova’s sentencing Wednesday, April 19, saying she must also serve five years of post-release supervision.
The Queens District Attorney’s Office said Nasyrova and victim Olga Tsvyk resembled each other, as they both had dark hair and similar skin tones. The two women also spoke Russian.
On Aug. 28, 2016, Nasyrova went to Tsvyk’s home in Queens' Forest Hills neighborhood and brought her some cheesecake. Tsvyk ate the cake and started feeling ill. She saw Nasyrova in her room, then passed out. Her friend reportedly found her unconscious the next day with pills "scattered around her body — as if the woman had attempted to kill herself."
Tsvyk went to the hospital for treatment and when she got home, she saw her passport, employment authorization card, and other valuables were missing. Homeland Security agents conducted drug tests on the cheesecake and found it was laced with the sedative phenazepam. The other pills surrounding Tsvyk also turned out to be phenazepam.
District Attorney Melinda Katz said in the statement announcing the sentencing, "A ruthless and calculating con artist is going to prison for a long time for trying to murder her way to personal profit and gain. Thankfully, the victim survived the attack on her life and we were able to deliver justice to her."
