Miss. Burger King employee allegedly shoots customer in drive-thru line after fight over intercom

GULFPORT, Miss. (TCD) -- A 33-year-old fast-food employee was arrested after he allegedly opened fire at a customer in the drive-thru lane following an argument.
According to the Gulfport Police Department, on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 8 p.m., officers were reportedly assisting a stranded motorist near Middle Drive and Highway 49 when bystanders flagged them down to report a physical altercation nearby. Officers got to the scene and reportedly heard two gunshots, then witnessed Eddie Smith on top of the victim.

Gulfport Police said they learned Smith and a customer got into an argument while speaking through the intercom. Smith allegedly walked out the back door of the Burger King and the victim got out of his car, and the two got into a physical fight. Smith reportedly pulled out a gun and fired two shots. One hit the victim and the other struck Smith’s hand.
Both Smith and the victim were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The victim is reportedly in stable condition.
After leaving the hospital, officers learned Smith is a convicted felon, and they booked him in the Harrison County Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm after a felony conviction. He is being held in lieu of $300,000 bond.
