SPRINGBORO, Ohio (TCD) -- A jury indicted a 30-year-old babysitter this week after a child in her care was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries in April.
On April 3, the Springboro Police Department responded to Redbud Drive to a report of a 20-month-old child who had been severely injured at her babysitter's home. The toddler was transported to Liberty Children's Hospital and then to Cincinnati Children's Hospital main campus, where she remained in the intensive care unit for several weeks.
According to WXIX-TV, the victim's babysitter, Megan Carson, told police she was caring for two children at her home when they bumped into each other. She reportedly said the child seemed uninjured at first, but the victim soon began showing symptoms of a seizure. Carson called the child's mother and brought the 20-month-old to the hospital, WXIX reports.
Medical staff reportedly told officials the victim came in with a swollen face and brain injury, and they didn't think the toddler would survive.
Police said the Warren County Prosecutor's Office presented the case to a grand jury last week, and on Monday, July 24, Carson was indicted on charges of felonious assault and child endangerment.
Police booked Carson into the Warren County Jail, and she is awaiting arraignment.
Police have not provided an update on the toddler's condition.
