MILLTOWN, Ind. (TCD) -- A Crawford County man was arrested after he allegedly attacked his mother with a knife and tried slicing her throat.
According to the Crawford County Sheriff's Department, on March 19, deputies were informed about a woman walking down 8944 North Ridge Road with blood on her body from apparent stab wounds. Deputy Patrick Gallagher found the victim, Mary Durbin, at State Road 66 and Baylor Road, and gave her first aid until paramedics arrived. The deputy reportedly "observed what appeared to be lacerations on Ms. Durbin’s hands and neck."
Gallagher as well as other law enforcement officials went to her residence. The Sheriff's Department said Gallagher went to the trailer located on the property and saw a man inside. The man inside the trailer, Jeramie Durbin, reportedly "appeared in the doorway of the residence, then returned inside."
As Gallagher reportedly approached the trailer with his gun drawn, Jeramie Durbin allegedly "reappeared at the doorway with a knife in his hand." He ultimately threw the knife in the yard after he "made the sign of the cross."
Jeramie was then arrested and taken into custody.
Mary reportedly told Gallagher that her son "had been following her around in her trailer all day." She reportedly asked him to help out around the trailer because he was staying there, but then he "pushed her down and attempted to strangle her."
Jeramie allegedly "continued to batter" Mary as she tried getting up. Mary said Jeramie "retrieved a knife from the kitchen and tried to slice her throat," which caused her to sustain injuries to her hands and neck.
Mary reportedly tried calling for help on her phone, but Jeramie reportedly broke it. She eventually escaped by "running out the back door, jumping a fence, and flagging down a passing car."
Crawford County Jail records show Jeramie is being held on several charges, including criminal confinement, attempted murder, possession of marijuana, strangulation, domestic battery, aggravated battery, and more. He is being held without bond.
