Florida woman survives boyfriend's burning-gasoline attack

She can't stop the raging madman at the door. He's drenched her in gasoline. And now he's going to light her up. She erupts into a human fireball.

On June 11, 2012, Naomie Breton was standing by her parked Mercedes-Benz. A Jaguar turns in and stops. Roosevelt Mondesir gets out of his car, armed with a gallon of gasoline. He splashes the flammable liquid all over her.

Gas station surveillance camera captures a terrified Naomie running with her hair and clothes on fire. The flames sear her body. Naomie runs shirtless back into the 7-Eleven and frantically calls for help. The attacker is her violent ex-boyfriend, Roosevelt Mondesir.

Boynton Beach Police Officer Patrick Monteith was first to respond to the gruesome scene.

"He had a plan he set the plan in motion by luring her into the location and then put the plan into effect the moment he had the chance," said Monteith.

Naomie's skin is charred and blistered. She suffers second- and third-degree burns on her head and body. Somehow she survives.

Mondesir had promised to meet her at the gas station in Boynton, Florida and hand over custody of their 4-year-old son. But it was all a lie.

Cops find him cowering in the bushes close by and arrest him. A terrified Naomie still doesn't know where her young son is when she's rushed to the hospital. Police later find 4-year-old Nathaniel left alone at his father's house.

A jury finds Mondesir guilty of first-degree attempted murder and domestic aggravated battery.

But what still haunts Naomie is whether all this pain and torment could have been avoided. She had filed for an order of protection against Mondesir, but it had been denied just two weeks before the brutal attack. She believes it was because each had been accused of domestic violence in the past.

Mondesir is sentenced to life in prison.
