COLORADO SPRINGS -- (KOAA) -- Formal charges were filed on Thursday against the Colorado Springs teenager accused of killing his siblings.
The charges against 19-year-old Malik Murphy were not read aloud in court. He is facing a reported six total counts including two counts of first degree murder in the stabbing deaths of 5-year-old Sophia Murphy and 7-year-old Noah Murphy.
Court documents show the children were stabbed while they slept and Sophia screamed her brother's name during the attack. Murphy then attacked his father, who came downstairs and overpowered the teen until police arrived.
This all happened on October 17, at the home in the 900 block of Carlisle St.
During Thursday's court appearance, family members dressed in black sat quietly in the courtroom across from Murphy. He reportedly sat quietly with his head down throughout the hearing.
