PELICAN RAPIDS, Minn. (TCD) -- A 27-year-old mother was arrested on suspicion of murder this week for allegedly suffocating and kneeling on her daughter, who ultimately died from her injuries.
Otter Tail County Jail records show Suad Mohamed Ali was booked Tuesday, July 11, on a charge of first-degree murder while committing child abuse.
According to Valley News Live, Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Ali's home on River Road Monday, July 10, at approximately 9:40 p.m. after receiving a call about an unresponsive child. When they arrived, they found someone kneeling over the little girl, who did not have a pulse, and said Ali "killed her."
Court documents cited by Valley News Live say Ali told Otter County deputies she suffocated her daughter and put her hand over her mouth because the little girl was "continuously crying." She allegedly attempted to stab her daughter that same night, but did not injure her. Deputies reportedly found a knife in the couch.
Ali allegedly admitted to punching her daughter in the throat and sitting on her while she was face-down to stop her crying. At one point, the victim started vomiting. Ali reportedly performed CPR on the girl, but was allegedly shaking and suffocating her at the same time. She reportedly smiled while performing CPR on her daughter.
Medics transported the little girl to Essentia St. Mary's Hospital, where she died.
