S.C. teen accused of fatally shooting his 12-year-old sibling

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (TCD) -- A 17-year-old male was arrested and charged after allegedly fatally shooting his 12-year-old sibling late last week.
According to a news release from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday, Oct. 27, at around 8:40 p.m., deputies responded to Hector Road to a report of a shooting. At the scene, authorities reportedly found the 12-year-old victim, who was transported to a hospital and later died.
Upon further investigation, the Sheriff’s Office identified the victim’s brother, Antony Juarez-Simon, as a suspect. He was reportedly arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, pointing and presenting a firearm, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, "Juarez-Simon is alleged to have acted with reckless disregard for the safety of others when he shot the victim."
Juarez-Simon remains held at the Florence County Detention Center.
Major Mike Nunn of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office told WMBF-TV, "We’re so heartbroken over continuing to read week after week where children have died or injured themselves or others by coming in contact with the unsecured weapon."
