Atlanta mom arrested for allegedly shooting teen son during fight over video game console

ATLANTA (TCD) -- A 34-year-old mother was taken into custody after she allegedly shot her son multiple times during a dispute about a video game console.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, on Thursday, June 29, at 10:22 p.m., officers were called to a home on Sparks Street SW regarding a person shot. When they arrived, they found a 17-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. An ambulance arrived and transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police identified the suspected shooter as the victim's mother, Jaquana Butler. Atlanta Police allege Butler and her son got into an argument "over a video game console which escalated to gunfire."
During the fight, Butler allegedly retrieved her gun and shot her son several times.
She was arrested and booked into the Fulton County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, reckless conduct, and cruelty to children.
Fulton County Jail records show Butler has been arrested on several occasions over the last 13 years on various charges, including aggravated battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, armed robbery, and more.
