HARAHAN, La. (TCD) -- A 43-year-old woman is in custody after her boyfriend’s 6-year-old daughter was found deceased inside a 10-gallon bucket.
In a press conference, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said on the morning of Wednesday, April 26, a father woke up and noticed that his 6-year-old daughter, Bella Fontenelle, and his 43-year-old girlfriend, Hannah Landon, were gone from his Donelon Drive home. He went to the Harahan Police Department and reported them missing.
Police responded to the home and began canvassing the area, Lopinto said. Another child was reportedly in the home but was unharmed.
At around 8:20 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office said Harahan Police responded to the home of the child’s biological mother on Sedgefield Drive, a block from Donelon Drive. There, officers reportedly found the 6-year-old girl dead inside a bucket on the front lawn.
An autopsy report ruled the child’s death a homicide, but Lopinto did not disclose her cause of death.
Officials reportedly interviewed the victim’s biological parents and determined they were not involved with the 6-year-old’s death.
According to Lopinto, investigators obtained surveillance video that showed Landon pulling a wagon with a bucket on Donelon and Sedgefield drives. The Sheriff’s Office said Landon had walked into the Harahan Police Department the night before, April 25, and was transported to a local hospital.
Landon was taken into custody and will be booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on a charge of first-degree murder.
