DULUTH, Minn. (TCD) -- A 35-year-old man faces attempted murder charges after reportedly stabbing his pregnant girlfriend more than a dozen times last week.
According to the Duluth News Tribune, on Wednesday, March 2, officers from the Duluth Police Department responded to an apartment building at 1701 Kenwood Ave. at around 5:15 p.m. At the scene, officers reportedly found the 32-year-old female victim suffering from 13 to 15 stab wounds to her chest, neck, and back, as well as one to her heart. She was transported to the hospital in critical condition, the Duluth News Tribune reports.
According to WCCO-TV, the victim's boyfriend, Anthony Alton Holloway, was identified as the suspect. The victim is reportedly two months pregnant with his child.
According to a complaint obtained by WCCO, the victim and Holloway also have a 1-year-old child together. Holloway allegedly told the victim he "hoped the baby would die" while she was pregnant with their previous child. WCCO reports the 1-year-old child was safe from the stabbing attack but was covered in blood.
According to the Duluth News Tribune, when the victim was able to speak with investigators, she told them she was asleep with their 1-year-old child, and she woke up to Holloway stabbing her in the back. Holloway threatened to kill her and allegedly stabbed her in the front of her body as she tried to get away.
The victim told police, "The way he was coming at me (with the knife) I thought he wanted to kill me," the Duluth News Tribune reports.
Eventually, the victim was reportedly able to escape the apartment and call for help. Holloway then locked the door with two children inside the home, the Duluth News Tribune reports.
Holloway had reportedly called 911 and told dispatchers he was responsible for the stabbing. The children inside the home were located safe without injuries, the Duluth News Tribune reports.
Earlier in the day, the victim allegedly saw Holloway put a knife in his pocket, and she asked him about it, but he denied doing so. According to the Duluth News Tribune, the victim said for the past two years, domestic violence had been a regular part of their relationship, and Holloway had threatened her with a knife before.
As of Friday, March 4, the victim was reportedly in stable condition.
According to WCCO, Holloway was arrested and charged with attempted murder and child endangerment on $750,000 bail. Holloway is reportedly scheduled to appear in court March 28.
According to the Duluth News Tribune, Holloway has a criminal past and has been convicted in four previous domestic assault or stalking cases. Additionally, he has been convicted for drug sales, first-degree burglary, fleeing a peace officer, and impaired driving.
