KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (TCD) -- A man accused of stabbing his brother during a dispute about their pet cats is now facing charges.
According to WOWK-TV, on Thursday, Nov. 17, Kanawha County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home on the 200 block of Casdorph Road to a report of a stabbing. At the scene, authorities reportedly found a man suffering from a large cut.
The victim told deputies he had been stabbed in the stomach, WSAZ-TV reports. He was reportedly transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
Deputies found the suspect, 33-year-old Joshua Haynes, in a chair with a kitchen knife nearby, WOWK reports.
According to WSAZ, deputies found blood along the kitchen floor. A woman who was inside the home allegedly told deputies Haynes was "talking out of his head" and asked Haynes about "letting the cats" out before the stabbing. The victim opened the woman’s door, waking her up and holding his wounded stomach.
Kanawha County Chief Deputy Joe Crawford told WSAZ, "It appears to be a domestic-type issue between family members that got out of hand."
Haynes faces a malicious wounding charge and remains held in the West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, records show.
