HAMPTON, Ga. (TCD) -- A 40-year-old man accused of killing four people in a mass shooting was gunned down by police over the weekend following an hourslong manhunt.
According to Hampton Police Chief James Turner, on July 15 between 10:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., Andre Longmore shot and killed three men and one woman within a few minutes of one another in the Dogwood Lakes subdivision. Police then issued four warrants for his arrest on murder charges.
Longmore fled in a black GMC SUV following the shooting, and law enforcement officials from around the state assisted in the search.
At a press conference, Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett said, "Wherever you are, we will hunt you down in whatever hole you may be hiding in and bring you into custody. Period."
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to Longmore’s arrest. On Sunday, July 16, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office announced Longmore was killed, but a deputy and a Clayton County Police officer were wounded in the process.
In a Sunday news conference, Scandrett said investigators tracked Longmore to Mt. Zion Parkway, where they "engaged the suspect." Longmore shot back at deputies and fled. Law enforcement "gave chase, reengaged the suspect, and he produced a handgun."
He shot at officials again, and they shot back. He was then "neutralized."
Turner identified the victims as 67-year-old Scott Leavitt, his wife, 66-year-old Shirley Leavitt, 65-year-old Steve Blizzard, and 66-year-old Ronald Jeffers. Police do not have a motive for the shooting.
Longmore stole Blizzard’s car afterward.
Scandrett added in the press conference, "The entire state of Georgia can breathe a little easier tonight. The suspect is off our streets."
