ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio (TCD) -- A 55-year-old man will spend the rest of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole after raping multiple children under 10 years old.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced the sentencing against Stewart Stacy on Thursday, April 6. Earlier this week, on Monday, April 3, a jury found him guilty of two counts of child rape with force and four counts of gross sexual imposition.
Prior to his sentencing, Yost said Stacy was facing 12 counts of rape, four counts of gross sexual imposition, and two counts of endangering children.
Yost called Stacy a "sexually violent predator," and said, "I’m grateful for the jury’s discernment and for Senior Assistant Attorney General Kara Keating, who secured this life sentence."
Yost continued, "This defendant will rape no children in prison. Punishment is important, but keeping this man away from children and the rest of society is even more important."
Stacy’s co-defendants, Cherise Griffith and Dannail Obhof, were sentenced in 2020. According to Yost, Griffith was given life with the possibility of parole after 20 years, and Obhof was sentenced to 25 years.
The Ashtabula Police Department worked alongside the Conneaut Police Department on the investigation, and the Special Prosecutions Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office prosecuted each case.
