FERNLEY, Nev. (TCD) -- Deputies arrested a man over the weekend on suspicion of killing his girlfriend, who was found dead in a house fire.
According to a news release from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, July 15, at around 11:08 a.m., deputies and fire personnel responded to a house fire at 320 Aspen Way and observed a fire isolated within a bedroom. Fire personnel extinguished the flames and located Sephra Fitak deceased in the bedroom.
Other law enforcement officials, including the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division, Nevada State Fire Marshal investigators, and forensic investigators from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the home and ruled Fitak’s death a homicide.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office alleged the blaze had been "intentionally set in an attempt to conceal the crime."
The Sheriff’s Office soon identified Fitak’s boyfriend, Roger Borud, as the primary suspect.
On July 15, deputies arrested Borud on charges of burglary, home invasion, and probation violation for an unrelated case. The next day, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division arrested him on charges of open murder and first-degree arson in connection with Fitak’s alleged slaying.
