FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (TCD) -- A 35-year-old woman was found guilty this week of fatally shooting her mother and sister and staging the scene to look like a murder-suicide.
According to the Fairfax County Police Department, on July 14, 2017, officers responded to a home in the 6700 block of Dean Drive in McLean. At the scene, police say they found the bodies of 23-year-old Helen Lorena Hargan and her mother, 63-year-old Pamela Denise Hansen Hargan. They both reportedly suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
According to WTTG-TV, one of the victims was discovered in the bedroom along with the murder weapon. The other victim was reportedly located in the laundry room with shell casings nearby.
According to the Fairfax County Commonwealth Attorney's Office, evidence suggests that the suspect, Megan Hargan, believed her mother, Pamela, favored her sister, Helen. Additionally, Megan was allegedly angry because Pamela did not wire her $400,000 for a home purchase.
WTTG reports on the day of the fatal shootings and the day prior, Megan attempted fraudulent money transfers from her mother's account.
Megan was arrested in November 2018 after being indicted by a grand jury.
On March 28, the Attorney's Office announced Megan was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of murder.
