HERBER CITY, Utah (TCD) -- A 35-year-old murder suspect accused of killing his girlfriend from Herber City, Utah, was allegedly found dead in Oregon.
According to a news release from the Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday, Aug. 15, the Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police responded to an abandoned vehicle parked near Hurrican Creek Road by a trailhead and found that it belonged to Michael Asman.
Authorities reportedly searched down a wooded area to the creek and found a decomposing corpse with a Glock model 27, .40 S&W caliber pistol by his shoulder. The body had a gunshot wound to the head, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators reportedly believe the decomposing body was Michael Asman, a fugitive wanted out of Utah.
Asman was charged with homicide on July 14, the Sheriff’s Office said. According to KTVX-TV, Asman’s girlfriend, 36-year-old Julie Ann Burns, was found fatally shot inside her home. Her two daughters, ages 6 and 10, were allegedly inside the residence during the shooting.
Documents obtained by KTVX allege that after Asman shot Burns, he took the two girls past their mother’s body and advised them to close their eyes until they were outside the house.
A month before Burns’ death, Asman was reportedly arrested and charged with aggravated assault after he tried to run her over. According to KTVX, Burns was worried Asman would be released because she believed Asman would fatally beat or shoot her.
