SHELDON, Ill. (TCD) -- A 53-year-old man will likely spend the rest of his life in jail for strangling a 17-year-old girl who went to his house to buy Disney cups he offered her at a garage sale four years ago.
Iroquois County court records show that on May 15, a judge sentenced Arthur Jensen to 50 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections about two months after a jury convicted him of murder for the death of Adara Bunn.
On Aug. 5, 2019, Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department deputies went to Jensen’s home on Main Street in Sheldon after receiving a call about a disturbance. Deputies found Bunn deceased inside the home and then took Jensen into custody on a homicide charge. An autopsy report showed Bunn died from ligature strangulation.
According to the Daily Journal, one of Jensen’s neighbors called 911 because they heard screaming coming from his home. When law enforcement arrived, he reportedly walked outside and said, "There’s a girl inside and I strangled her."
Bunn reportedly went to Jensen’s home the weekend she died because she bought some items at his garage sale, including a set of Disney cups. Jensen reportedly told Bunn to return to his house the next day to get a matching set, and when she did, he killed her.
