GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. (TCD) -- A 19-year-old is recovering in a hospital after he was reportedly tied to a chair and drank a near-fatal amount of alcohol, and then dropped off at the hospital.
According to Glynn County Police, on March 21, three juveniles dropped Trenton "Trent" Lehrkamp at Southeast Georgia Health Center, gave the emergency room their names, and left before police arrived. Lehrkamp reportedly had a "high level of intoxication," but police said they did not notice any signs of injuries other than "the presence of spray paint."
Lehrkamp’s intoxication was due to a mix of alcohol and controlled substances.
The next day, Glynn County Police executed a search warrant at a home on St. Simons Island and found evidence connected to the investigation. Police have reportedly conducted interviews with several juveniles, as well as Lehrkamp.
WSAV-TV reports Lehrkamp had a blood alcohol level of 0.464. Trent could only take six breaths per minute and was put on a ventilator.
A copy of the incident report shared by WSAV says Mark Lehrkamp, Trent’s father, told police his son has been hurt in the past when he socialized with the group of teens. Mark Lehrkamp said on March 17, Trent "came home covered in WD-40, vomit, paint, glue, egg yolk, and spray paint."
Another time, Trent "seemed high or drunk" and needed to get stitches because he had a cut over his left eye.
Mark said Trent "never returns normal" when he hangs out with the group of teens. Mark believes his son sees them because he "has no other friends," and he thinks "he is accepted and with people he thinks cares for him."
He also thinks his son won’t fight back because "if he hurts them he will get in serious trouble" due to the fact that they are minors.
According to Atlanta News First, a photo posted to social media shows Lehrkamp bound to a black chair with what looks like feces on his lap. His head is falling to the side and his body is doused with spray paint.
About four days before his hospitalization, another video allegedly showed teens spraying him with a water hose.
The Brunswick County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement March 28 they are "researching criminal statutes and procedures so we can determine what laws are applicable to the facts."
The office said, "As the investigation proceeds, the District Attorney’s Office will continue to confer with law enforcement to monitor the status of the investigation and provide legal advice. Once a complete and thorough investigation has concluded, my office will review all of the evidence and determine the appropriate course of action. We will not make a decision until we know all of the facts and we can determine what can be proven by admissible evidence in a court of law."
Lehrkamp’s family said in a statement via police this week that he is "transitioning" and "beginning the next step of his care."
