NEW YORK CITY (WPIX/AP) -- A former Manhattan gynecologist accused of sexually abusing more than two dozen patients, including the wife of former presidential candidate Andrew Yang, now faces federal charges.
Robert A. Hadden was charged with six counts of inducing others to travel to engage in illegal sex acts. The charges were announced Wednesday.
Hadden was a gynecologist with both Columbia University and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Hadden had avoided prison time but surrendered his medical license in an earlier plea deal with state prosecutors.
The New York Times reports that more than 65 women have accused Hadden of sexually abusing them, including two who were teenagers.
The New York Times reports Hadden targeted victims who were young or had little experience with gynecological examinations, according to Audrey Strauss, the acting United States attorney in Manhattan. Strauss said for many of his victims, Hadden was their first gynecologist, and for others, he was their doctor for their first pregnancy.
The New York Post reports Hadden allegedly abused his victims from 1993 until 2012, according to the indictment unsealed Wednesday in Manhattan federal court. Hadden then abused his victims by groping them and performing oral sex on them, according to the documents, the Post reports.
