CONCORD, N.H. (TCD) -- A couple who went missing after going on a walk together were found fatally shot in the woods near a trail.
According to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, Stephen Reid, 67, and his wife Djeswende "Wendy" Reid, 66, left their home at the Alton Woods apartments on Monday, April 18, at approximately 2:20 p.m. for a walk that took them to the area of Broken Ground Trails. The Reids' family members had not heard from them after that.
Concord Police said family saw the couple a day earlier at a family member’s house and spoke to them the day they went on their walk. A family member reported both missing April 20 after Stephen Reid did not show up for a "planned event."
The couple’s bodies were found April 21 in a wooded area near Marsh Loop Trail, the Attorney General’s Office said. Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Mitchell Weinberg conducted the autopsy and determined both of the Reids died from multiple gunshot wounds. Their deaths were ruled homicides.
In a statement to WMUR-TV, the couple’s family said the two met in Washington, D.C., when Wendy was there on an athletic scholarship. Stephen reportedly served three years in the Peace Corps in West Africa, and Wendy, his "soulmate" was also from West Africa.
The family said they "bonded over their mutual love of adventure and fitness."
The Reids moved back to Concord three years ago for a "well-deserved retirement."
The statement reads, "Steve’s thirty-plus year career as an international development specialist in service to the world’s most vulnerable through USAID humanitarian projects could not have been made possible without the love, care and support of Wendy, who also helped recently-resettled refugees acclimate and thrive in the United States."
No arrests have been made yet.
