Miss. mother gets life for killing 17-year-old daughter, abusing 2 other children

JACKSON, Miss. (TCD) -- A 35-year-old mother will spend the rest of her life behind bars for the 2020 death of her 17-year-old daughter and prolonged abuse of her two other children.

On Friday, April 14, Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens announced LaTiffany Chambers was convicted on charges of capital murder and two counts of felony child abuse following a jury trial.

According to a news release from the Jackson Police Department, on Oct. 31, 2020, shortly before 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a home on the 600 block of Lowder Drive. At the scene, officers found Lamonica Tucker with "obvious signs" of physical abuse, WLBT-TV reports. She was transported to the hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Officials examined Chambers’ two other children, ages 12 and 14, and reportedly determined they had suffered continuous physical abuse.

Chambers and the children’s stepfather, 31-year-old Danny Dabbs, were taken into custody, and in February 2021, a Hinds County grand jury indicted them on charges of capital murder and two counts of felony child abuse. Chambers and Dabbs were both booked into the Hinds County Jail.

Owens said Chambers was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the capital murder charge and 10 years for each count of felony child abuse.
