NEW YORK (TCD) --
Four men were arrested on Long Island in the early hours of Wednesday morning after police pulled a car over and found a dead woman's body in the trunk.
WPIX-TV reported NYPD officers saw the men carrying a large object and put it in the trunk of a car near Foam Place and Central Avenue in Far Rockaway. Cops followed the car and pulled them over on the Nassau Expressway and Bayview Avenue in Inwood. AMNY.com reported the car was a Nissan Altima sedan.
When the officers opened the trunk, they found a woman wrapped in a blanket. She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS who responded at the scene.
According to WPIX, the woman's identity was not yet released and charges against the four men were pending. Investigators also reportedly believe the death was linked to the gang MS-13.
WNBC-TV reported the men who were taken into custody were part of a broader ongoing probe. NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea told WPIX it was an "extremely active investigation."
An NYPD spokesperson said, "Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New York, working with the NYPD and our law enforcement partners, made several arrests this morning pursuant to a long-term investigation into certain acts of violence in the Queens, New York area. This case is ongoing and there is no further information at this time."
