Woman fatally shot after allegedly killing 6, including 3 children, at Nashville school

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (TCD) -- Six people, including three children, were killed Monday in a shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville's Green Hills neighborhood. The suspected shooter is also dead.
The Nashville Fire Department tweeted Monday morning that crews were responding to an "active aggressor" at the school on Burton Hills Boulevard with "multiple patients" confirmed. Soon after, Nashville Police announced on Twitter there was an active shooter at the school, and the suspected shooter died following an interaction with police.
A Nashville Police spokesperson Don Aaron said the alleged shooter appeared to be a teenage girl and was armed with two assault-type rifles and a handgun. Officials were working on positively identifying her. Nashville Police Chief John Drake said at a press conference the suspect was as former student at the school.
The student victims have been identified as Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney. They were all 9 years old. The adult victims are 61-year-old Cynthia Peak, 60-year-old Katherine Koonce, and 61-year-old Mike Hill.
According to Aaron, the girl reportedly "entered the school through a side entrance and traversed her way from the first floor to the second floor, firing several shots."
In an update, Nashville Police said the suspect is 28 years old. Two Metro Nashville Police officers reportedly "went to the sounds of gunfire" and "engaged the shooter on the second floor and fatally shot her."
The first 911 call came in at 10:13 a.m., and the shooter was killed at 10:27 a.m.
According to The Associated Press, the victims were transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital and Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where they were pronounced deceased.
The Covenant School teaches preschool through sixth grade and was founded in 2001 as part of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
