HOUSTON (TCD) --
A suspect was charged with robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and murder after a family was found shot in their apartment on Wednesday, June 30.
Houston police officers and paramedics responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on the 12000 block of Fondren Road at about 10:35 p.m. on June 30 and found three people dead and a child in critical condition.
The victims were identified as Gregory Carhee, 35; Donyavia Lagway, 29; and Harmony Carhee, 6. A 10-year-old girl at the scene was hospitalized in critical condition. She was later listed in stable condition.
Gregory Carhee and Donyavia Lagway were the parents of both children, the Houston Chronicle reports. A 1-year-old boy at the scene was unharmed. A fourth child was not at home during the incident.
Houston Police homicide detectives identified the shooting suspect as 28-year-old Xavier Davis.
Davis was arrested on July 1 in an unrelated case on a family violence charge of aggravated assault and was still in custody, according to police. He was then charged with three counts of capital murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, the Houston District Attorney’s Office said.
Houston Police said Davis is also accused of stealing a Jeep Compass an hour before the shooting, and driving away from the shooting scene in the vehicle. KPRC-TV reports the Jeep was stolen at gunpoint, and was later found on fire in Pearland.
On Tuesday, July 6, Davis was also charged with aggravated robbery, Houston Police said
Also on Tuesday, a Harris County judge revoked bond for Davis, who remained held in the Harris County Jail.
The 10-year-old girl who survived had called her grandmother to tell her she and her family had been shot, and the grandmother called police, the Chronicle reports. The girl survived by “playing dead,” the paper reports. She was reportedly shot in the arm.
KPRC reports the suspect came to the door and demanded money from the family. Then he allegedly shot the victims in the head at point-blank range, according to the Chronicle.
Davis was identified through an anonymous tip, the Chronicle reported. Police were searching for a second suspect in the case, KPRC reports.
Donyavia Lagway was pregnant with her fifth child, KHOU-TV reports.
