HARRISON COUNTY, W.Va. (TCD) -- West Virginia State Police troopers arrested a 23-year-old man they allege bit a woman's face during an argument, causing her to bleed profusely.
According to court documents cited by WBOY-TV, troopers responded to a call Tuesday, April 25, regarding a dispute at a home in Harrison County. Troopers arrived and found a female victim bleeding from her face. She reportedly told state police that Andrew Cozad "had bitten her in the bottom lip and inner gum area during a domestic dispute."
The victim, who was not named, reportedly had open wounds on her lips and gums that were still bleeding by the time troopers got to her home. She also had some blood on her shirt.
West Virginia State Police troopers alleged in the criminal complaint that Cozad "intended to permanently disfigure [the victim] by purposefully causing deep wounds to her facial area.”
Cozad allegedly initially put his hands around the victim's neck, but a witness to the incident prevented him from strangling her.
Troopers arrested Cozad on a charge of malicious wounding.
West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation records show he was booked May 2 and is being held on $5,000 bond.
