Idaho man sentenced for killing his stepson following dispute involving victim's mother

CALDWELL, Idaho (TCN) -- A man was recently sentenced for killing his stepson following a dispute involving the victim's mother.
According to the Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, a judge sentenced Felix Torres on July 23 to life in prison for the first-degree murder of his stepson, Danny Borges. Torres will have to serve 27 years before parole eligibility.
On April 17, 2024, the Caldwell Police Department responded to a report of a possible shooting and found the 21-year-old victim. Borges was transported to a hospital and died from his injuries.
Prosecutors said Torres fatally shot Borges after a "domestic dispute involving Borges' mother," which escalated into a physical altercation. Torres reportedly retrieved a gun and shot him outside the family residence.
Prosecuting Attorney Chris Boyd said, "This sentence represents a measure of accountability for the defendant’s unthinkable decision to end the life of a young man with his whole life ahead of him."
Boyd continued, "While no sentence can take away the loss of Mr. Borges’ life, we hope it offers a sense of justice and closure for his family.” The Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office also extended its appreciation to the Caldwell Police Department for its investigation and handling of the case."
