LAS VEGAS (TCD) -- A 32-year-old man is in custody on suspicion of killing his neighbor this week after the victim allegedly exposed himself.
On Monday, May 13, shortly after 7 p.m., officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a home on Starline Meadows Place, where they found a man, identified by KLAS-TV as 47-year-old Joe Moreno, in the driveway suffering from gunshot wounds. Medical personnel pronounced Moreno dead at the scene.
Police identified Eddi Moreno as the primary suspect. Eddi Moreno said he and Joe Moreno got into a dispute even though he allegedly had never met the victim.
An individual called 911 and reportedly said a neighbor was "causing a disturbance and grabbing their genitalia."
During the argument, Joe Moreno "stood on a large boulder," and allegedly "pulled his penis and scrotum out and began thrusting" toward the suspect, documents reviewed by KLAS say. Eddi Moreno then reportedly told his wife to get his gun and call 911. As Joe Moreno moved toward Eddi Moreno and reached down his pants, the suspect allegedly shot him.
According to KLAS, detectives obtained doorbell camera footage of the incident.
After shooting the victim, Eddi Moreno allegedly stated, "That’s what he gets. He’s not going to do that in front of my kids. Are you crazy?"
During the fight, Eddi Moreno said the victim allegedly accused him of breaking into his home. The suspect also reportedly told police he believed Joe Moreno was reaching into his pants to grab a weapon, but officials didn’t find one in his possession.
Although Eddi Moreno claimed he had never met Joe Moreno, KLAS reports that Joe Moreno called out the suspect’s name following the shooting.
Moreno remains held in the Clark County Detention Center without bail on a charge of open murder.
