North Carolina man accused of setting duplex on fire, trapping victim inside

THOMASVILLE, N.C. (TCD) -- A 48-year-old man was arrested for allegedly setting a duplex on fire and trying to trap and kill someone inside the burning building.
According to WGHP-TV, fire crews responded to the duplex on the 700 block of Kahler Street at approximately 6:08 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5. At the scene, firefighters reportedly discovered both units on fire.
WGHP reports that a male victim told police Jason Ray Weeks threatened to kill him, and as he tried to escape the building, Weeks allegedly held the door shut and shouted, "You’re going to die."
Weeks was reportedly located by firefighters. As police tried to detain Weeks, he ran away and headed north on the 700 block of Salem Street, where he was arrested.
According to WFMY-TV, Weeks was charged with first-degree arson and attempted murder. Weeks’ bond was set at $125,000 for the first-degree arson charge, and another bond will be set for the attempted first-degree murder charge. He remains held in the Davidson County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 16.
