HOUSTON (TCD) -- Bystanders reportedly beat up a man accused of driving erratically, hitting two women and a power line in the process, causing a blackout in the area.
KTRK-TV reports the incident began Monday, June 5, at approximately 2 a.m. in the parking lot of a bar, Micheladas Tres Hermanos, on the 7700 block of Airline Drive, when the suspect drove up and allegedly started arguing with another person in the lot. The man allegedly began driving dangerously through the parking lot.
According to KPRC-TV, at one point, the driver went in reverse and struck two women standing nearby. Soon after, he reportedly ran into the utility pole, which resulted in a power outage.
Houston Police spokesperson Rebecca Dallas told KTRK, "Some of the pedestrians standing around were upset because of the injuries sustained to the two females that he hit. And so, they pulled him out of the vehicle and began assaulting him."
KPRC reports Houston Police arrived at the scene and attempted to stop the altercation. One of the bystanders reportedly ran away from an officer. As the policeman got closer, the bystander allegedly punched him in the face. The officer responded by Tasing and arresting him.
The driver is reportedly in critical condition. The two women also sustained serious injuries but are expected to survive, KTRK reports.
Police reportedly suspect drugs and alcohol played a role in the events Monday evening. Both the bystander and driver will likely face charges.
