Atlanta man accused of stealing car with 9-year-old child inside

ATLANTA (TCD) -- A 38-year-old man was arrested this week after allegedly stealing a running car with a 9-year-old child inside.
According to a press release from the Atlanta Police Department, on Monday, April 4, at approximately 8:45 a.m., officers responded to 888 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. to a report of a kidnapping. At the scene, authorities reportedly met with the 911 caller, Jerrica Moore.
Police say when Moore drove into the Goodwill store parking lot and left her car running, a male suspect jumped in and sped away. Her 9-year-old son was reportedly sitting the backseat as the suspect drove off.
According to police, the male suspect, Darius White, was located in the area of Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard. He reportedly tried to flee, but authorities immobilized him and took White into custody.
Police say the child was brought to Hugh Spalding for medical evaluation and was eventually reunited with his mother.
According to police, pending charges against White include kidnapping, cruelty towards children, and theft by taking. He will reportedly be brought to Grady Detention for evaluation.
