GREEN BAY, Wis. (TCD) -- A 24-year-old woman accused of chaining up a man and dismembering him after sex has been found competent to stand trial.
Court records show suspect Taylor Schabusiness appeared in court Thursday, May 19, for an evidentiary hearing, and the court determined from evidence presented at the hearing she was competent to proceed.
WBAY-TV reports two forensic psychologists, one representing the state of Wisconsin and the other Schabusiness, testified Thursday with their findings following their own evaluations. Dr. Deboroah Collins, who spoke on behalf of the prosecution, reportedly said she found Schabusiness to be "cooperative, responsive to my questions so she didn’t require a lot of redirection."
Collins said Schabusiness sometimes showed emotions that were "odd or out of context, but at no point did she appear distracted."
According to WBAY, Schabusiness told Collins about her history with drug and alcohol abuse as well as her mental health history. Schabusiness reportedly stayed in a psychiatric facility when she was in 7th grade for attempted suicide and has previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, ADD, ADHD, and PTSD.
Collins testified that Schabusiness understood what was happening in court and "attached the charges to the potential for life incarceration."
On the defense's side, Dr. Tracy Luchetta argued Schabusiness "voiced a statement that was peculiar and seemed consistent with delusional belief."
Luchetta said Schabusiness "noted that the most serious consequence she would receive if convicted is the death penalty," though Wisconsin does not have the death penalty.
Schabusiness' hearing relates back to an incident in February in which Green Bay Police responded to a home on the 800 block of Stony Brook Lane at 3:25 a.m. for a report of a severed head found in a bucket. According to the criminal complaint, police went to the residence and one officer noticed a blanket over a bucket. He lifted it up and discovered the head inside.
Officers later located Schabusiness' van and inside, found a crock pot box that contained "additional human body parts including legs." Detectives continued their investigation at the Stony Brook Lane residence. The complaint says the bucket with the head contained "a male organ, along with body fluid and two knives." Additional body parts were found around the scene.
Schabusiness reportedly told police she and the victim, Shad Thyrion, smoked meth and later had sex. Thyrion allegedly pulled out some chains when they were having sex, and she allegedly started choking him until he died. Schabusiness reportedly had sex with the victim afterwards.
The criminal complaint adds, "Schabusiness stated the plan was for her to bring all of the body parts with her but she got lazy and only ended up putting the leg/foot in the van and she forgot the head. Schabusiness made comments that she did not mean to kill the Victim but as she was choking him she liked it and she would just keep doing it."
Jail records show Schabusiness is being held on $2 million bond.
