RAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (TCD) -- A 46-year-old man was arrested after his wife was fatally shot during a standoff that reportedly occurred because of cheating allegations.
According to a news release from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, on July 12 at approximately 9:30 p.m., deputies responded to a home on North Avenue between 28 and 29 Mile to a report of shots fired. The 36-year-old man inside the home who called authorities reportedly said another male was shooting toward the residence from a car and that children were present.
Deputies arrived and located Matthew Mollicone inside the vehicle. He was reportedly yelling at his wife, Kimberly Mollicone. The Sheriff’s Office said accusations of infidelity between Kimberly and her husband allegedly led to the shooting.
The Mollicones reportedly arrived at the male’s house earlier that day while he was outside cooking on a barbecue grill, and a verbal argument ensued. The argument eventually escalated and gunfire broke out between Matthew and the male, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The male was reportedly struck in the leg and chased Matthew on foot. As the male went back into his house to grab another weapon, the Mollicones retreated back to their car, and more gunfire was exchanged between both parties, the Sheriff’s Office said. As a result of the shooting, Kimberly was reportedly struck near her neck and succumbed to her injuries.
On July 15, the investigation was presented to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, and Matthew Mollicone was charged with multiple counts, including homicide –– felony murder, weapons –– felony firearm, assault with intent to murder, weapons –– dangerous weapon –– carrying with unlawful intent, and assault with a dangerous weapon.
The other male involved in the shooting was reportedly arrested and then released pending further investigation.
