COLUMBIA, S.C. (TCD) -- Three teenagers, including a 14-year-old, were arrested this week for allegedly shooting four other teenagers, three of them fatally, due to a years-long dispute.
On Sunday, Sept. 24, Richland County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a call about the quadruple shooting. The three victims who died were 16 and 17 years old, while a 14-year-old survived. The Richland County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased victims as 16-year-old JaKobe Fanning, 16-year-old Caleb Wise, and 17-year-old Dre’von Riley.
Richland County investigators arrested Jahkeem Griffin and Karlos Gibson, both 17 years old, for three counts of murder, attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a handgun under the age of 18.
A 14-year-old was also taken into custody on the same charges.
At a press conference, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said the shooting reportedly occurred because of a "beef that just continues to grow," which he called "stupid."
He said the dispute had been going on for several years and that "young people decide that they’re going to solve it by shooting."
WLTX-TV reports the 14-year-old victim was shot in the lower body and was released from the hospital.
The Richland County School District One confirmed the three victims who died were all students at Eau Claire High School.
