CHICAGO (TCD) -- Police are investigating a boy's death as a homicide after he was shot and killed at a family member's home on New Year's Day.
On Jan. 1, Tom Ahern, the deputy director of news and communications for the Chicago Police Department, tweeted a 9-year-old boy had been shot in a home on the 9400 block of South Wallace Street and was being transported to Comer Children's Hospital for treatment.
Ahern announced later that night on Twitter that the boy did not survive, and detectives from Area 2 would be investigating.
According to WGN-TV, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office ruled Jarvis Watts' death a homicide. A firearm used in the killing has reportedly not been located yet.
WFLD-TV reports Jarvis was at a family member's home when the shooting occurred.
