TULSA, Okla. (TCD) -- A 36-year-old man was recently sentenced to 45 years in federal prison for fatally shooting his stepfather in 2018 amid a feud.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma, on Nov. 15, 2018, Kevin Foster drove to Rick Swan's trailer and shot him multiple times, resulting in his death. After the fatal shooting, Foster set his stepfather's body on fire.
The Attorney's Office said firefighters and Rogers County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to calls about a fire and found the victim on the property.
Upon further investigation, authorities reportedly learned that Foster and his stepfather were entangled in an intense "family feud." Foster and Swan were scheduled to appear in court for a hearing on the same day as the victim's death, according to the Attorney's Office. Previously, the victim had said he was concerned for his safety due to the tensions in the family.
A "deer camera" on the victim's property revealed Foster inside the building at 10:36 a.m. on the day of the crime with a firearm, the Attorney's Office said. Foster was also reportedly seen with a red gasoline can.
According to the Attorney's Office, Foster previously pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Indian County, and on Tuesday, Sept. 6, he was sentenced to 540 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release.
