PONTOTOC COUNTY, Okla. (TCD) -- A woman accused of playing a role in the death of her pastor husband pleaded guilty this week to murder.
Pontotoc County court records show Kristie Evans changed her plea from not guilty to guilty Monday, March 11. Evans' attorney Joi Miskel told NBC News her client "understands there has to be accountability for her actions, and she’s prepared to serve whatever sentence is handed down."
Miskel said Evans "wants the court and the public to know the reasons behind her actions."
Miskel added Evans "at least now has some control and say so in her life that she didn’t have before — as twisted as that may sound."
Kristie reportedly confessed to playing a role in her husband’s murder, and she and her reported lover, 26-year-old Kahlil Square, were taken into custody on March 25, 2021. Kristie allegedly gave Square bullets and one of her husband’s guns the day he was killed, according to KFOR-TV.
Square will reportedly continue to plead not guilty to the charges.
On March 22, 2021, at approximately 1 a.m., Kristie reportedly called Ada Police and said an intruder entered her home and shot her husband, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said at the time. Responding officers discovered David with a gunshot wound, and he died at the scene.
According to KFOR, Capt. Beth Green with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said, "The three of them, Kristie, Kahlil, and David, had a sexual relationship. Kristie and Kahlil also had a separate sexual relationship, just the two of them."
Green reportedly said Kristie described her husband as "verbally abusive and controlling of her."
