DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. (TCD) -- Deputies arrested a father this week on suspicion of child abuse, causing severe injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
On Sept. 26, detectives from the Davidson County Sheriff's Office received a report of child abuse against a juvenile in Denton, North Carolina, and launched an investigation. According to WXII-TV, the victim was 8 months old. The baby had reportedly sustained a brain bleed and three fractured ribs.
Medical staff from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center determined the victim's injuries were consistent with inflicted head trauma, also known as shaken baby syndrome.
The sheriff's office identified the victim's father, Eddie Sims, as a suspect and arrested him on a count of felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury on Thursday, Nov. 16.
