PINCKNEYVILLE, Ill. (TCD) -- The parents of a 3-month-old child face charges after the infant suffered a skull fracture and died from his injuries.
On June 12, 2022, the Illinois State Police and the Pinckneyville Police Department were notified about a 3-month-old male infant who had been admitted to a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, for a skull fracture and multiple rib fractures. Two days later, on June 14, 2022, the infant reportedly died from his injuries.
Police learned the victim’s parents, Logan Hutchings and Sophia Kelly, both 21, were taking care of the baby before his arrival at the hospital.
Nearly a year after the victim’s death, on Tuesday, April 4, police said the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office charged Hutchings and Kelly with first-degree murder in connection with their son’s death. They were arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail on $1 million bond.
The Illinois State Police worked alongside the Department of Children and Family Services, Pinckneyville Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, and the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office throughout the investigation.
