Babysitter's boyfriend also arrested for murder in 2-year-old girl's death

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (TCD) --
The boyfriend of a woman accused of killing a 2-year-old girl in her care has been arrested in the ongoing homicide investigation, Sandy Springs Police announced Wednesday.
Sandy Springs resident Jeffrey Scott Meyers, 28, was arrested on charges of second-degree cruelty to children and second-degree murder. Meyers was held without bond at the Fulton County Jail.
Kirstie Flood, 29, was arrested and charged with two counts of felony murder; one count of malice murder; one count of aggravated battery; and one count of first-degree child cruelty in December.
On Dec. 9, 2020, EMTs responded to a medical call of an unresponsive 2-year-old child at an apartment on Monterey Parkway, Sandy Springs Police said. The child was rushed to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
An autopsy showed the girl "suffered severe injuries that resulted in her death during her care by the suspect," according to police.

Investigators said the girl was in the care of her babysitter when the child was allegedly assaulted.
WSB-TV reported that according to police, Flood first said the toddler hit her head on a slide at the park and didn't wake up. Doctors determined the girl's injuries were not consistent with Flood's story.
When police searched Flood's phone, she had been searching things like “what type of people enjoy abusing other people's children” and “what does it mean to have a sudden urge to beat a child that's not yours.”
